Mite Treatment
Ear mites
for any pet can be really uncomfortable. An ear mite is a
very small bug that takes residence on the ear of pets. The
number one way pets can get them is from other pets who are
infected. As a pet owner, one way for you to find out your
animal is suffering from these is by noticing them shaking
their head and scratching their ears.
It is
important for the pet to get ear mite treatment right away.
If the pet owner does not take action to get rid of the ear
mites then the situation can get worse. The ear mites can
travel down to the inner ear of the dog causing infection.
The outside of the ear can also turn red. The inside can
become so infected that it can cause bleeding and be so
painful that the dog will start holding it's head at an
angle.
If the pet
owner cannot afford to pay for a vet then there are a couple
of at home ear mite treatments that can be used. The best
thing a person can do for their dog is to clean their
clears. It is safe to clean their ears with some sort of
dropper with vegetable or olive oil in it. The dropper does
not have to be inserted into the dog's ear. The oil can be
dropped in the ear canal but the owner has to hold the dogs
head so it will not try to shake it out. The owner should
hold the dog's head with both hands and massage the ears.
This ear mite treatment will feel very soothing for the dog.
Then the owner can wipe the excess oil gently off the dog
and begin treatment to get rid of the mites
completely.
Another ear
mite treatment that can be done at home is taking about nine
to ten drops of yellow dock root extract and 1 tablespoon of
water. Put the drops in the dogs ears and massage
thoroughly. This ear mite treatment can be done every three
days for up to six weeks. Using a half an ounce of almond
oil and vitamin E as drops is good ear mite treatment as
well. This treatment can be done every day for six days. If
necessary, wait three days and repeat the
treatment.
After the
ear mite treatment has cured the dog of infection it is
important to continue to clean the ears. Using an ear bulb
with warm water and a drop of liquid dish washing detergent
will prevent ear mites from reappearing any time
soon.
